EDITORIAL

By Judith Crocker

What should our role be now, after the recognition of our 25 years of publishing in Broward?

To be the voice of those who are not always heard

We will continue to offer a platform for residents, immigrants, senior citizens, youth, small business owners, community organizations, and community leaders. Our community must continue to see itself reflected in our pages, and its concerns must have a place to be voiced.

To be an independent and responsible media outlet

Recognizing the achievements of our officials and institutions is important, as is explaining the decisions that affect citizens. The recognition we receive should not limit our independence, but rather strengthen our commitment to the truth.

Uniting communities and promoting understanding

In a county as diverse as Broward, En USA helps bridge cultures, generations, and languages. It highlights stories of solidarity, resilience, education, entrepreneurship, and community service, while also addressing the problems that need solutions.

Evolve without losing our identity

Our 25 years of experience provide us with a solid foundation for the future. In addition to our print edition, we have a strong digital presence, including social media, email newsletters, video interviews, event coverage, and platforms for citizen participation. Technology expands our reach without compromising our credibility.

Building a legacy for future generations

We are creating opportunities for new journalists, students, photographers, writers, and community contributors. We also preserve the historical memory of our community, documenting its transformations, its key figures, and its achievements so that future generations can learn about their roots.

What exactly should we do after this recognition?

This 25th anniversary marks the beginning of a new stage, with commitments:

  • With the reader: listen to their needs and publish useful information for their daily life.

  • With the community: create spaces for citizen proposals, concerns and solutions.

  • With sustainability: strengthening responsible advertising, community partnerships, and opportunities for financial support that allow us to continue publishing independently.

  • Looking to the future: set annual goals to increase reach, reader engagement, and information quality.

The message that should define our next stage

The Broward County Commission's recognition honors the past 25 years. Now it's up to us to demonstrate, year after year, that our presence continues to be valuable.

I don't want to see this recognition solely as a tribute to the past.

On the contrary, I must use this time to renew En USA's editorial mission, strengthen our readers' trust, and establish a plan for the next five years. The true measure of success shouldn't be reaching another 25 years, but rather how many people will feel better informed, more represented, and more connected thanks to En USA.
